Gotten from [personal profile] gloss: If you were asked to pick one scene, one line, one detail, one moment of some kind out of all the stories I've written and say "This, this, for whatever reason, I remember, this is something that struck home with me, that I wanted to keep," what would it be?

I'm currently battling the outline for my Yuletide story and am apparently in need of some positive reinforcement.

(As an aside, it is SO HARD not to talk about my Yuletide story here, y'all. It's either going to be phenomenally evident that I wrote it or nobody will be able to guess because it's so crappy, but either way count on some massive TL;DR about the process once authors are revealed.)
riseupwithfists: scarab's text bubbles re: how much he loves jaime reyes (scarab harts jaime)
Let's do this, chickadees:

I think it would be fun to talk about stories, but the usual memes are like, "What happens next?" "Tell me about Character A?" Which isn't so much talking about stories as it is writing more of a story. But you know how sometimes you read something and you're like, "I got ___ out of this story, I wonder if I have that right?" or "What on earth was ____ supposed to be?" and it's too awkward to ask the author? Now you could totally ask!

I've heard people say that writing is hard because you have to make decisions, but we never really talk about the decisions we make with stories or why we make them. We talk about plot bunnies, but not about how we actually turn them into a story.

And it seems like a lot more fun to do that than to do working.

So, if you wanted, ask me questions! (Or use this to ask your flist to ask you questions).

What were you trying to do [here]? Why did you decide to ____? This is what I thought about xyz, is that what you were going for? What made you write ____? Why did you decide to do this? And so on.

Um, ask me my top five whatevers and I will answer? Or just ask me un-numbered stuff. I think I'm ready to talk again.

In the very near future, I'm going to post my huge post of annotations, meta, and all-around TL;DR about Adventures in Solitude, as well as a very beloved side-story that was cut out at the last minute and was a case of me killing my darlings. However, I'm still in the phase where I'm sort of detoxing from finishing it and reallllllly need a break from that, so.

DRABBLE MEME. I'm long-winded, so when I say Drabble I really mean Ficlet, which could be anything from 100 to 400 words.

Fandoms: DCU, some Marvel, and now I feel like I could be comfortable enough to write Community so you could try that. Cracked-out crossovers are also welcome. And, even though I just said above that I'm in a bit of AiS detox, I could still totally write stuff set in that verse if y'all wanted, aka ahahahaha I am totally inconsistent.

Note: while I'm aware of certain parts of DCU current canon, I haven't read or cared for all of it. So feel free to request something new canon-based, but I might not be able to fill it. Also, I tend not to write het, for those of you just tuning in, though I could try if I love you enough. Anything queer or gennish is fine and dandy, though.

Because I swear I can talk about something other than comics once in a blue moon:

tv that i has been watching: community, treme, doctor who. not specifically spoilery but i'm cutting just in case because of general... spoileryness. )

And now, a meme, since I don't know if I've done a DW icon meme yet: Reply to this post, and I will tell you my favorite icon of yours. Then post this to your own journal using your own favorite icon. I'm an indecisive soul, so it'll probably be more like three, so.

ETA: Also, I'm sort of going on a subscribing spree, so if you've left an interesting comment either here or in a friend's journal and I like the cut of your jib, I'm being a creeper and adding you. I am KATE. I write fic and slightly self-righteous meta, usually about comics. I also enjoy salmon.

[community profile] three_weeks_for_dw is unfortunately coinciding with revision times/FINALS TIMES UGH, so it'll be more like two_weeks_for_me, but I really want to do this one because I know I've been promising meta recently:

What kind of topics/entries would you like to see me posting about? Any particular questions you've always wanted to ask me but have resisted because the answer would be a huge essay? Ever want to wind me up and watch me go on a particular topic? Anything you've heard me say "I should write that entry about _________ I've been meaning to write" and have been patiently waiting for?

Feel free to comment now, and I'll get back to these sometime within the three weeks. This way your suggestions can be all percolating in the back of my head whilst I study/revise/tear my hair out holy shit. Also, open to everyone. Lurkers welcome!

(TEAM BETA: I have made this sooooo fucking complicated for myself, but YOUR EXPERTISE WILL BE NEEDED... SOMETIME IN THE NEXT WEEK. I have a final the day that some sort of final draft is due, OF COURSE, but then posting doesn't start until May 10th so the "final" version I turn in doesn't have to be the final version that I post. Long story short, I'm in the middle of fits of inspiration and ecstasy and filling in blanks, and the story that you will receive to read will be about 98% complete. Current word count is ~31,000. It will be more by the end of the week when I send it out. This thing is getting fucking finished and it will be glorious I swear to Scarab.

I'm more than a bit stressed out about this because there's the story that it could easily be, and then there's the story that I WANT it to be, and I'm so afraid that time constraints and fear of taking risks (okay, time constraints) will make me settle for the easier route and this is the longest fic I've ever written with the intention of actually posting it in a complete manner and oh god I want to do Jaime justice because there is NO Jaime longfic out there and that's more than a little bit intimidating. I know I'm overthinking this but it's been in my head for SO LONG and I'm so worried that it's hackneyed and silly but oh man I want to do some of the more implicit things in it justice.

Ugh I hate how full of myself I sound. I just WANT TO DO JAIME JUSTICE.)

Give me a character or a pairing* that I have written about lately/have talked about writing about lately/am obviously just fond of and I will make you, the requester, a four to six song playlist for the character and pairing, accompanied by me gabbing about it. I'd usually have a drabble option, but I'm currently in the middle of the magical land of term papers and therefore have to save my writing energy, sadly.

*Except Jaime/Tim. You'll be getting that one soon enough. Jaime/anyone else is entirely fair game.

Oh my god, is DC going to fall into a black hole of endless Lantern events and variant covers now that Johns is in charge at the asylum?

(Countdown to the storyline adapted from Geoff Johns' fanfiction drawer [bc you know he has one] where Cassie, Kon and Tim have to have a threesome to save the universe: begins now.)

Meme du jour: Leave a comment on this post and I will pick three of your fandoms. Then you get to answer the following questions. Except that three sounds like a bit much, so I'll do one or two because these are a lot of questions. [personal profile] haunted prompted me for the following:

Okay, sports fans. This is what I did all weekend instead of writing Kon/Paco for Porn Battle (your mileage may vary re: whether this was a good thing or not).

wherein i blab about comics and families and comics families and comics. )

Okay, so I haven't been participating in the chromatic recasting meme for various reasons, including the fact that I am lazy*. But I just noticed that nobody's recasted the Young Avengers yet which is a fucking travesty because Read more... )

*and also because when I cast my favorite characters, I want to cast ALL of my favorite characters. Which is my way of saying INTERNET, BRING ME PICTURES OF ADORABLE POTENTIAL JAIME REYESES.

I have finally begun to post my responses to the prompt meme:

-Cassie and Mia got it going on for [personal profile] gloss

-THE FIRST PIECE OF KON/PACO IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD for [personal profile] jubilancy.

The rest will pop up soon!
riseupwithfists: (bart goes to film school)
Meme: The first ten (or whatever) people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. Some other equivalent gift, like icons or mini-fanmixes or quickie meta, would make sense for people who don't write fic themselves. (Or if the writing doesn't come...)

Offered: DCU, the fun parts of Marvel (Captains America, Young Avengers, Neek Furie and his merry (wo)men, etc) um. What the hell: Community. If I've talked about it with any amount of love anywhere, I'll probably give it a shot. Manager reserves the right to refuse service, aka come up with an alternate prompt if you're not sure about my willingness to write the first one. I've been writing exclusively DCU stuff for the past year or so to be perfectly honest, so you'll probably have the best luck there, but I am willing to expand in the name of Science or whatnot.

Also also! Expect a few days for these to appear, as I am most likely going to work on these in my more boring classes don't tell my Victorian Lit and Society teacher.

Stolen from [personal profile] gloss, who stole it from countless others: Ask me about a pairing I have written (recently or ever) -- or one I haven't and you think I should write -- and I will give you five facts about them or a ficlet or a song that is CLEARLY THEIR SONG or what they order from the Chinese place down the street, or what they're watching, &c., &c.

(I actually don't have a master list of fic anymore, but I've written in Lotrips, Lost, Captain America, Young Avengers, annnnd DCU/Batpeople/Jaime Reyes The Most Adorable Superhero In The World*. If you're unsure, give me two to choose from or something? IDK.)

*dude, what do you mean that isn't the name of the series?
